Update: viewing, funeral and trust fund
The viewing will take place on Tuesday June 29, 2010.
Memorial services will take place on Wednesday June 30, 2010 at 9:30 a.m.
Procession and internment - After the memorial service there will be a procession to the Holy Cross Cemetery for the internment.
Reception - A reception will be held following the graveside service at the Radisson Hotel.
Trust Fund - A trust fund has been established for the Ortiz family with the C.A.H.P. Credit Union. Please make any checks payable to Jessica Ortiz with “Philip Ortiz Memorial Fund” written on the memo line. Donations can be sent directly to the C.A.H.P. Credit Union.
On June 9, 2010, California Highway Patrol Officer Philip Ortiz was conducting an enforcement stop on the right shoulder of northbound I-405 (San Diego Freeway) south of National Boulevard. During the enforcement stop Officer Ortiz was struck from behind by a vehicle being driven on the right shoulder of the freeway. As a result of the collision, Officer Ortiz sustained major injuries.
He succumbed to his injuries on June 22, 2010.
He is survived by his wife, parents, sister and a large extended family. Officer Ortiz faithfully served the people of California as a CHP officer for 28 years. He was a motor officer for over 20 years in the West Los Angeles Area.
