The CHP family is mourning the loss of Officer Thomas Adams, I.D. 19365, of the Garberville Area office. Adams, age 24, was killed in a head-on collision on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at approximately 2:15 p.m., on U.S. 101 just south of the town of Piercy in northern Mendocino County.
Adams, a native of Fortuna, was pronounced deceased at the scene and MAIT is investigating the collision. The two occupants of the 2004 Toyota Tundra also involved in the collision were taken to the hospital and later released.
After graduating from the Academy in January 2009, Adams began his career in Oakland. He transferred to the Garberville Area last September. He is survived by his parents Bruce and Karen Adams. His mother is a public safety dispatcher for the CHP who is assigned to the Humboldt Communications Center.
