CAHP Cares Request
Officer Ablito Cornejo, I.D. 22666

CAHP Update

A CAHP Cares account has been established for CHP Officer Ablito Cornejo, I.D. 22666, and his family. He works in the South Sacramento office.

Officer Cornejo’s wife, Kristen Cornejo, gave birth to Ledger Cornejo in March of this year. After an extremely short period of time at home, baby Ledger was admitted into the pediatric ICU at Sutter hospital in downtown Sacramento. For almost two months, doctors were unable to diagnose his symptoms and both Ablito and Kristen spent most of every day at the hospital with their son, unable to help his condition improve.

Ledger was recently diagnosed with a very rare disease that causes an over-inflammatory response to anything that happens to his body. This means that his body violently reacts to any type of infection or any cuts or scrapes or anything harmful within the bloodstream. When the body becomes too inflamed, it shuts down organs and other systems. The only way to combat this condition was to suppress his immune system, leaving Ledger extremely vulnerable to even the smallest cold, flu or infections. The family was faced with the possibility of Ledger having to live in an isolation bubble for the rest of his life, however long that might be.

On June 18, after being re-intubated and placed on a high dose of Fentanyl to keep him comfortable, Ledger passed away from this horrible condition.

Ablito’s wife, Kristen, has been unable to maintain full-time employment since the birth of Ledger. Their medical insurance helped, but did not cover all the tests and procedural expenses that Ledger required. Additionally, with this latest tragic news, even more financial costs will be incurred for the funeral arrangements.

As a result of the time off of work that Ablito needed to take in order to be with his family, he is due to run out of leave credits sometime in early July. The donation of leave credits from the South Sac office was previously authorized and Valley Division Chief Dust is ready to authorize that service to go division-wide if the need presents itself.

The CAHP Cares Committee has established a CAHP Cares account for the family to help with these costs. If you would like to contribute to the fund you can donate via paypal.

You can also send a check (made out to CAHP) to:
